The Sixth Sense new task

Brief:
Task – Students are required to gather sounds of their environments, such as apartment, at night, the studio, the canteen etc. These sounds should be listened to, and using digital tools images should be produced that describe the sounds you have recorded. Think about using colour and shapes but avoid using recognizable images. Photo manipulation, and illustration software would be good tools. In your blog explain why you have used the tools you have, and what you have discovered about sound.

And then I recorded some sounds when I was in the TBS, I was on the bus and when I was at home.
I've recorded the frogs' sound and the noise when my neighbour was renovating his house.

And then I used Photoshop to create an image.
I am familiar and at the same time unfamiliar with Photoshop.
I only know how to use it to draw. So this time I decided to know more about it's functions
and the effect when I combined something.

I chose black as the background colour is because the sound on bus gave me the feeling that I am in the middle of darkness.
And I used blue to be my main colour because the frog sound made me feel like I am in a cold and silent world.
The green-crystal-look things kind of represented my feel when I heard the driving-me-crazy renovation voice. I was still sleeping.

Sound is really a mysterious thing. It can control your mind, lead you into your imagination.
Sad, angry, happy, freaky, scare; if there is background music in our real life, it would be very interesting.

The Sixth Sense

This was the task that we had to finish until the task suddenly been changed.
I already on my way but it's okay to do a new one.
Plus I think this one is nothing to do with Digital Skill... ;P
So I am just gonna put the progress on, see when can I finish this.

My idea is to interpret a song.
Song, we can hear it, we can feel it, but we can't see it or touch it. (Am not considering MV)
So I try to get the feel that I found from the song, and grab the meaning from the lyrics.
I try to make my own world that represent the song. So here comes the sketches.
Oops, haven't mention the song's name yet, it is Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga.
At first I thought this song is about the bloody mary form the famouse legend who killed teenage girl just to gain immortality.
And then when I looked in to the lyrics I found that she is singing about the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Anyway the song does give me the feeling like a creepy doll that was abandoned by his/her master who once loved him/her so much and now he/she is returned for revenge.

So I try to make my image looks sanctity and freaky at the same time.

Creative thinking Task 2

The Brief:

Scenario
-
You are to asked to create a permanent and workable piece of art for your current allocated studio space. free medium.

Task
-
Document as many solutions as you can that will solve the problem above, in any manner, be it with images or in writing or hieroglyphs it is entirely up to you. However, your thought process must be documented on a surface no smaller than 1m by 1m. THE MORE SOLUTIONS YOU HAVE THE BE.

Still not quite sure about the task but I knew that is about creating something that we want for our workspace, so I drew things that came into my mind.

Sketches and on-the-way-inking.

I drew on a big paper that is connected by eight pieces of A3 paper.

Part of the sketches.

Inking in progress.

I combined all the small parts of drawing into a long piece of  picture. Feel free to click on it and have a big version to view.

The character at the lower right corner is kind of represent myself.
And the character at the upper right corner is the chibi version Loki.
I would like to have a poster of my idol around me when I am working, it keeps me awake :D
And the gramophone, because I like music, and just like I've mentioned before, music inspire me a lot, so I wish to have a powerful speaker that can help me build my world and at the same time keep those noises far away from me. is
The cards at the middle of the bottom is like I wish to have a pack of cards that is designed by me.
Beside them is a meadow and trees. Green help to heal your eyes.
There's books and curtain. I like reading and curtain help me to create my own private place.
The puppet who holds knife and axe to help me chase away the annoying one.
I try to connect my creations into a complete scene. Hope it works.

The Box

I exchanged with my dear classmate, Buhle, and below is what i got from her box!
A facial product box, pack of lead, automatic pencil, highlight pen, steel rule and papers.

At first I planned to use paper and automatic pencil to draw something.
Here is the result.
Well, this is actually a refrigerator. With three layers.
This is the first one.

 And this the second layer.
Something is getting weirder.... XD

And the third layer.
Refrigerator not only a place to store food like meats and vegetable,
it also stores a lot of dead spirit inside... hehehe.

But turns out to be I didn't fully utilize the whole things, so I made something else.

This time I made a surprise box. Like jack in the box.

When you open it something will pop out.

For the spring, I folded many pieces of paper together to make it elasticity.

And I stocked a head on the top of the paper.
The head seems familiar to you, doesn't it?

Yup, it is the experimental head of Wächter!

And I cut the box and formed a new box.

Here is the final outcome of my box! Use the highlight pen to do some simple decorations.

Ta-da! Surprise!

What Am I

This is a piece of art work that explain what kind of person I am.

And here comes the process.

First draw it with pencil on the paper.

And then used artline 0.6 to finish the inking.

I stand in front of the mirror, I see a reflection inside.
That reflection looks like me, looks not like me.
He (yes, he) wears a mask, his eyes are dark.
Behind the man is the hill, there's a castle on the hill.
On the other side, there's a graveyard there.
Smoke all around the world in the mirror.
And there's pocket watch. And a city.

Try and interpret it :D

Cabinet of curiosities

Cabinet of curiosities, as known as Cabinet of Wonder, and in German Kunstkammer ("art-room") or Wunderkammer ("wonder-room"), is the original form of museum. At first it was a personal collection of things of wonder, mostly own by wealthy man. It contained both natural and man-made objects. They collected things that they found wonder and curious such as holy relics from a Spanish ship; earthen pitchers and porcelain from China; a Madonna made of feathers and a chain made of monkey teeth.
The main function of cabinets was to provoke a sense of curiosity and wonder in the viewer instead of showing one man’s wealth. They displayed their owners' notions of Art (man-made artefacts), Science (natural artefacts) and Spirituality (sense of wonder at God's works) in a physical form. Collecting these items is not to analyse and classify that artifact but showing a world-view that valued the 'wonder' in an artifact.
Cabinet of curiosities can be described as a microcosm or theater of the world, and a memory theater. They hold a lot of collections which are rare enough to be found in the other places. They always possess memories within them, like natural history, geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of art (including cabinet paintings) and antiquities. Each of the items represents the place where it came from and at the same time holds the memory of that place. If we interpret them, a lot of messages will be shown. They help you to experience the sense of wonder in all kinds of things in the world and discovering new and extreme examples of the natural and the man-made.
Cabinet of curiosities means a lot to us. It’s very important for human and I think everyone should have their own cabinet no matter in what form. It should be stored by the things that mean a lot to us, and represent ourselves. We will always be reminded where we came from, and where we should head toward. It’s a connection between human and the world.
Now at modern age, cabinet of curiosities can be performed in many ways instead of a “cabinet”, like blogs. People collect information, store and share them to the world, efficiently give full play to the spirit of cabinet of curiosities.
As Samuel Quiccheberg (an eminent curator of cabinets) wrote: "The ideal collection should be nothing less than a theatre of the universe, it is the keys to the whole of knowledge."

Guide to life book

This is the second project for Graphic Design 2 pt.1
I found it interesting
In stead of just write some steps that guide you to achieve something in life, I try to create a unique job in the world that created by myself.
And here comes The Book Of Lumière.
I used AI to combine the description and pictures so that you can read them easily.
*click on it to see the original size*

I want the book to have old-style feeling so
I drew it in a vintage style.
Here is the storyboard.

First I finished all the design on paper, then scanned them into computer, coloured them in Sai, and final edit in PS and AI.

Will put all the pages on here after assessment day :D

The Three Posters

The main color for these three poster is brown.
And I use the reflections to show each one's problem.

Shine your heart. Don't let the darkness beat you.

The Culture of self-harm

Few years ago I found this kind of culture from internet.
I was shocked and I can't really understand why they want to harm themselves.

So few years later I decided to look into it (not so deeply) through this course.

And I found out that most of them who practice this culture have facing a series of problems until they can bear them anymore. The society somehow has the responsibility for this.

Why I call this a culture instead of phenomena is because self-harm always happen on the people who are hyperstress or lonely enough. Anyone could have face these, not just some part of people.

Sketches are annoying, really. I've drawn lots of them but still can't find one is satisfying.

This is the first idea. I want to show that a guy was lost. No one care about him, about his feeling,he want to speak it out but don't know where to shout out.

Second idea.  I want to show that this guy has been torturing by lots of problems like works,debts...etc.

A girl who has family problems. Her parents keep fighting with each other and always shout on her.

Another version of the idea just now.

A little bit changing on the last two ideas.

Finalize the second idea. I changed it into a boy who was alienated by his friends.

And this... is about the culture of non-mainstream. They just like to cut themselves for showing off purpose, obviously no connection with the ideas above so I just drop this.

Something about my 3D modelling

Mr.Zahariz asked us to find a building that we like, and start modelling it in Maya.
At first I was going to model the building of Ancient Egypt, or the other ancient style building.
Then I changed my mind into modelling the building from a drawing.
Yep, is like I choose a picture that drew by someone and modelling it.
I found one that I like very much from DA, here is the link: click me !
Her or His name is Snowskadi, an artist from Russia.
I really really like the artworks, so fantasy and so great.

The hard core thing about modelling building from drawing is they only got one side, you have to imagine and design the other sides by your own. I haven't drawn much building before and I don't really know the structure, so I spent a lot of time on this.
Well at the end you can't really recognize them because they are totally different from the artwork.
I kind of added my own design and concept into it.

Once again, it is so hard to design a building...

My concept of the building is a floating water city on the sky.

Here is the version of day.

Let's go for some details!
I call this Crystal Palace.
Well actually there will be water flowing down from the bridges but uhmm, you know, not enough time to draw so...
This is a place like for citizens to rest inside, to relax, enjoy the scenery, get some spa...
Something like that.

The Citadel.
This is a castle (although it doesn't look like) where citizens can gather around,
having feast or some ceremonies.
Sorry for the quality because I didn't change the value to the highest so the shadow looks a bit weird.

The small buildings beside The Citadel are Praying Center.
Citizens will go for praying before the ceremonies or after.
They have a strong belief in their gods.
The Tower of Life.
This is a tower that processes every issue about this city. Yup, the Mayor lives here.

Here is another little Praying Center~

You might ask if the people live on water then how do they move?
I don't know either, maybe boat? :P

I really had a lot of fun when applying texture on it. I especially like the effect of Blinn.
I know there are still so many things for me to learn about Maya, and these aren't good enough among my classmates.
 I'll keep moving on.
